Abstract

The Conferences of the Parties (COP) are meetings among representatives of governments, non-governmental organizations, and civil society where concrete actions are discussed and taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change. They also provide a platform to establish policies and mechanisms to support developing countries in transitioning to climate-resilient economies. Throughout history, 27 COPs have been held, two of which have achieved significant milestones such as the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997 and the signing of the Paris Agreement in 2015. Undoubtedly, COPs and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are closely related within the global agenda to address the challenges of climate change and achieve sustainable development. COPs provide a framework for decision-making and the implementation of climate actions, thus contributing to several SDGs. Conversely, actions to achieve the SDGs can drive climate action and generate mutual benefits for global sustainability. However, urgent and collaborative action is required to confront the climate crisis and, above all, ensure the effective implementation of measures agreed upon years ago.
